THE FIRST PITCH:
• Cleveland State returns to action when the Vikings play five games at the Winthrop Invitational from Friday through Sunday.
• The Vikings play Furman at 3:00 p.m. and Wagner at 5:00 p.m. on Friday (Feb. 28) and will face Gardner-Webb at 11:00 a.m. and Winthrop at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday (March 1).
• CSU concludes the tournament with a 12:00 p.m. contest against Robert Morris on Sunday (March 2). It will be the third time the team's have met in the early season with RMU claiming a 1-0 win on Feb. 9 and a 3-1 win in eight innings on Feb. 22.
WOODARD ON A TEAR AT THE PLATE:
• Cynthia Woodard has been on a tear to open the season. She is hitting .435 (10-23) with four runs, two doubles, two homers and six RBI.
• She has hit safely in five of the eight games and had three multi-hit games over the weekend at the Charlotte Invitational, including a pair of three-hit games.
KNIGHT EARNS PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
• Susan Knight was named the Horizon League Pitcher of the Week on Feb. 10 for her performance at the CSU Dome Tournament.
• Knight went 1-1 with seven strikeouts, allowing just four runs over 14 innings.
• She threw a complete-game, three-hit shutout in a win over Bucknell, and gave up an unearned run in a complete game 1-0 loss to Robert Morris.
McNEW RETURNS:
• Sophomore Erica McNew returns after earning first team All-Horizon League and Horizon League All-Newcomer of the Year honors last year.
• McNew just missed the league triple crown last season, leading the league in batting average (.413) and home runs (18) and ranking second in RBI (44).
UP NEXT:
• The Vikings travel to Clearwater, Fla., for 11 games over Spring Break (March 6-14).
