Vikings Fall Short, 5-4 Against St. Bonaventure

CHARLOTTE, N.C.-  The Cleveland State softball team scored in the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings, but wasn't quite enough, as St. Bonaventure prevailed 5-4, on Sunday afternoon.

With the Vikings (4-3) trailing 2-0 going into the fifth inning, senior Janessa Rivera-Keahi singled in the infield and eventually scored when senior infielder Hannah Yoe punched an RBI single to left field.  St. Bonaventure scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth making the score 5-1.  In the top of the sixth sophomore Katelind Phillips walked to begin the inning.  Sophomore Erica McNew singled through the left side with Phillips advancing to second.  A double steal put them at second and third.  Phillips scored on Cynthia Woodard's ground out.  Alyson Broschk laced an RBI double to left center scoring McNew to cut the deficit to 5-3.

In the seventh, Yoe singled up the middle, and then advanced to second on a wild pitch.  Nena Doran moved Yoe to third on a ground out to the shortstop.  Phillips singled, scoring Yoe to make it a one run game.  McNew singled, but the Vikings were unable to score any more runs.

Offensively, McNew went 2-for-4 with two singles, Broschk went 1-for-3 with an RBI double, Rivera-Keahi went 1-for-3 with a single, and Yoe went 2-for-4 with two singles and an RBI.
