Woodard Has Three Hits in 9-1 Loss to Host Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C.-  The Cleveland State softball team fell to host Charlotte, 9-1, in the final game of the Green and White on Sunday afternoon.

The Vikings (4-4) were led by the hot bat of Cynthia Woodard, who went 3-for-3 with two singles and her second homerun of the season.  Woodard is batting a team leading .435 with 10 hits, two doubles, two homeruns, and six RBI.  

Katelind Phillips and Erica McNew were both 1-for-3 as the Vikings were limited to five hits.

The 49ers, who were playing as the visiting team, scored two runs in the second, third and fourth innings to take a 6-0 lead. They added a solo run in the fifth before Woodard belted a solo homer to left field to get the Vikings on the board.

Charlotte added two more runs in the seventh inning.

Up next, the Vikings will travel to Rock Hill, S.C. to play four games.  CSU will play starting on Friday, Feb. 28- Sunday, March 2.  The Vikings will face Furman on Friday with first pitch slated for 3:00 p.m. and will follow with Wagner at 5:00 p.m.
