Woodard Homers in 3-1 Setback to Robert Morris

CHARLOTTE, N.C.-  The Cleveland State softball team fell to Robert Morris 3-1 in eight innings Saturday morning at the First Pitch Classic on day one of the tournament.

The Vikings (3-2) had solid performances from Susan Knight (1-1) going six innings of work in a no decision.  Knight allowed only one hit on one unearned run, two walks, and three strikeouts.  The Vikings' Cynthia Woodard belted a much needed lead-off home run to right center in the last half of the seventh inning to tie the game at one apiece, but it was not enough as Robert Morris added two runs in the eighth to be the game winning runs.  Woodard's homerun was her first of the season and went 2-for-4 in the game.  CSU had four hits in the contest with junior Nena Doran and senior Sara Shields adding the other two hits.

Cleveland State will be back on the diamond today with first pitch beginning at 4:00 p.m., as the Vikings take on St. Bonaventure.
