CHICAGO, Ill. - The Cleveland State softball team dropped its regular season finale at UIC on Sunday afternoon, falling 9-4.

The loss drops CSU to 21-25 overall and 10-9 in the Horizon League. The Vikings finished fourth in the final league standings and will be the No. 4 seed in this week's league championship.

The fourth-seeded Vikings will open play with a first round game against fifth-seeded Wright State in Chicago at 11:00 a.m. CST. Top-seeded UIC earned the No. 1 seed, while Loyola will be the second seed.

Third-seeded Valparaiso will face sixth-seeded Youngstown State playing in Wednesday's other first round game at 1:30 p.m. CST.

The Vikings jumped on the board first today against UIC on a leadoff home run from Dara Toman. The Flames tied it at 1-1 with a run in the second inning, but a three-run third inning for the Vikings, highlighted by an RBI double from Katelind Phillips, put CSU ahead, 3-1.

The Flames answered right back in the bottom of the third on a two-run homer by Coryn Schmit to tie the game at 3-3. UIC put the game away in the fifth as Melissa Preish led off the inning with a home run, the first of five runs and five hits in the inning.

Toman and Phillips finished with two hits each, while Alyson Broschk drove in two runs.
