Cleveland State Women's Soccer Adds Two Coaches to the Staff

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State Athletic Department and head women's soccer coach Dallas Boyer announced the additions of Stevie Holbrook and Frederike Dubeau to the coaching staff.

Holbrook, a member of the Cleveland State program from 2017-21, is returning to the Vikings to help with the goalkeepers. Holbrook saw action in 44 games in her career, starting 42 of those. She helped the Green and White advance to their first-ever Horizon League championship match in 2018, her first season as the full-time starting keeper.

"When Carl and I took over the program a few years ago, we made a very serious commitment to providing opportunities for young women to join our staff," said head coach Dallas Boyer. "We want to see young women grow within the game while providing great examples to the current student-athletes of what the future may look like if you make the most of them."

Boyer continued, "Our coaching tree first saw Reilee DuPratt quickly become a head coach, Jamie Daniels was an amazing asset last year and is continuing to have a presence in the club soccer scene in Ohio. Now to continue that string with two more alumni whose jerseys hang in the soccer office wall is incredibly valuable. These are all people who make our environment better, who lived this experience recently, and who performed on and off the field at an exceptionally high level.

"Our progress as a program has been built on the shoulders of people like Stevie and Frederike, so I'm really excited to have them back in the building and working with our current students," concluded Boyer.

Holbrook logged 3801:53 in net, accumulating a record of 23-16-4 to go along with 14 shutouts and 168 saves. Her best season came as a sophomore, putting up a record of 11-6-1 with 14 shutouts. As a junior, she finished with a career-best 75 saves.

Holbrook was named to the Horizon League All-Academic Team in 2021 as a student in law school. She was a seven-time member of the Cleveland State Dean's List and five-time member of the Horizon League Honor Roll.

"It's a great feeling to come back and give some time back to Cleveland State women's soccer," said Holbrook. "As someone who was in their shoes not long ago, I hope I can aid younger players' transition to college athletics and continue to provide a great environment for those that I once shared the field with. At 13 years old, I knew Cleveland would be my home and I am grateful to still have that mentality nearly 10 years later. Go Vikes!"

Holbrook received her bachelor's degree in business/managerial economics in 2020 and master's in business administration in 2021. Currently, she is a third-year law student at the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law and recently accepted an offer to join Squire Patton Boggs as an associate in Fall 2023 after working as a summer associate for them.

"Stevie played with maturity, composure, and a tactical understanding of a coach which will make this transition seamless," said Boyer. "Coaching was an option that we talked about during her playing days. Off the field, she finished her playing career by juggling duties as our starting keeper while also in year one of law school, which is another great example for current players. As a coach, it will be great for our group of young keepers to have a young and relatable person to work with, who has lived the same thing as them only a few years ago, literally in their same shoes.  I trusted Stevie with a ton of responsibility as a player and am happy to do so again in providing this opportunity now to join our coaching staff. She's going to help get the most out of a very promising group of goalkeepers on this year's roster."

Dubeau, a player for the Cleveland State program from 2010-13, is returning to the Green and White to help with the defense. Dubeau never missed a game (72) in her four-year career, starting all but one game on defense, and was named to the Horizon League All-Newcomer Team in her freshman year.

"Frederike was someone who took a chance on our young program, coming out to Cleveland from Washington without knowing much about the city or the school and not knowing anyone," said Boyer. "She completely invested herself in everything about being a Viking and truly gave everything to help this program take its next steps in her time here and as a result, she had a big role in helping move forward in her era. We often say, "the goal is to leave this place better than you found it..." and that's exactly what I got to see from Freddie's imprint on this program during her time as a player.  So I was not surprised to hear from her this summer and have the discussion about bringing her back to Cleveland from the west coast again to keep helping this program get better!  The players are going to get so much value out of having someone like Freddie here as an example of someone that completely crushed their student-athlete experience, now has a great career started as a result of their academic commitment and opportunities CSU gave them, and who still absolutely love giving back to this women's soccer program."

Dubeau finished her career with five goals and three assists for 13 points. In addition, she helped the backline to 18 shutouts, and at the time set a program record low of 22 goals against her sophomore season. Dubeau was also named Second Team All-Horizon League as a senior.

"I came to Cleveland State to help build a young program and make an impact for future Cleveland State Women Soccer players," said Dubeau. "It's a unique experience to be able to come back after some time away to see that and then also be able to contribute on the other side as a coach."

Dubeau graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor's degree in supply chain management from Cleveland State in 2014. She went on to obtain her master's of science in Predictive Analytics from Northwestern University in 2017.

Dubeau has spent the last eight years building her career in Data Science and Analytics. She works as a Manager of Advanced Analytics for Logic20/20, a business and technology consulting firm based out of Seattle, Washington.
