Morris & Vento Named To #HLWSOC All-Academic Team

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Prior to next week's Horizon League Tournament, the league announced its Women's Soccer All-Academic Team Friday afternoon, with Cleveland State seniors McKenna Vento and Stacie Morris earning a spot on the 13-member team.

This marks the first Horizon League All-Academic Team accolade for Vento and Morris, while it is the second time over the last five years that the Vikings have had two honorees on the All-Academic Team.

In the classroom, Morris carries a 3.96 GPA studying exercise science, while Vento owns a 3.87 GPA pursing a degree in health sciences.

The duo has earned a spot on the Cleveland State Dean's List every semester of their collegiate careers, while also earning CSU Athletic Academic honors and Horizon League Academic Honor Roll accolades every year that they have been eligible.

Over the last four years, Morris and Vento have helped the Vikings earn United Soccer Coaches Team Academic honors every season, and a Cleveland State 'Best of the Best' title during their rookie campaign.

On the field, Morris and Vento have been mainstays in the Viking lineup, helping the team to its best season in program history. Entering the final weekend of regular season play, Cleveland State owns a 10-5-1 overall record and a 6-1-1 mark in league play, with both win totals tying or setting program records.

Morris has been part of a Viking midfield that has recorded six shutouts this year – the second most shutouts in a single-season in program history. The Cincinnati native has also been part of a Cleveland State squad that has allowed just four goals in league matches, which is tied for the fewest goals allowed among Horizon League teams during 2018.

Vento has led the Viking offense this season, recording a team-high six goals, including three game-winners. Vento enters the final week of regular season play at the top of the league standings with her six goals this year, while she is tied for fifth in the CSU Single-Season Record Book. For her career, Vento has 12 total goals – ranking fifth in the CSU Career Record Book – as one of just nine Vikings all-time to record double-digit goals on their careers.

The Horizon League recognizes student-athletes with seasonal Academic All-League teams in each of its 19 championship sports. To be eligible for Academic All-Horizon League consideration, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or higher (based on a 4.00 scale) and have completed at least one year at the member institution, having earned 24 semester-hour or 36 quarter-hour credits.
