Vikings Continue Horizon League Play At Oakland Saturday Night

Week #6

THE OPENING KICK:
• Cleveland State will hit the road for the first time during Horizon League play this weekend, traveling to Oakland for a 7:00 p.m. contest on Saturday, September 22.
• The Vikings enter Saturday's match with a 5-4 record on the year, including a 1-0 mark in #HLWSOC play.
• Saturday's match against the Grizzlies will be the seventh meeting all-time between the two teams, with Oakland owning a 3-2-1 overall record.
• Saturday's contest will be the second of a nine-match Horizon League slate for the Vikings, and the first of four road contests against league opponents.

HORIZON LEAGUE PLAY:
• Under head coach Dallas Boyer the Vikings own a 6-4 record in regular season Horizon League matches.
• Last weekend, the Vikings picked up a 3-1 victory over IUPUI in the #HLWSOC opener, marking the fourth time in program history that Cleveland State won its league-opener.
• Earlier this season, Cleveland State was slated to finish fifth in the Horizon League Preseason Poll, picking up 66 points.

LAST WEEK:
• Cleveland State opened #HLWSOC play with a 3-1 victory over defending champion IUPUI last Friday, picking up three crucial points during the first week of league action.
McKenna Vento finished with two goals on the game - including what would prove to be the game-winner midway through the first half.
Ja'Maya Ward recorded Cleveland State's third goal, while Sarah Krause finished with two assists on the night.

CLEVELAND STATE VS. OAKLAND:
• Entering Saturday's contest the Vikings have won two straight against the Golden Grizzlies, picking up a 4-2 victory last season and a 3-2 win during the 2016 campaign.
• In last season's matchup, Dani Sowinski recorded three of Cleveland State's four goals, becoming the fourth player in program history to record a hat trick.
• Cleveland State's fourth goal came from Jenna Prathapa.

#HLWSOC PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
• For her offensive performance against IUPUI, McKenna Vento was named the Horizon League Offensive Player of the Week. This marked the first weekly honor for Vento, while it marked the second weekly accolade for the Vikings this season (Stevie Holbrook).

FREE KICKS:
• Head coach Dallas Boyer, in his second season in the top spot, has been on the coaching staff for 12 of the 15 seasons in program history.
• With her two goals against IUPUI last weekend, senior McKenna Vento moved into a tie for seventh place in the CSU Career Record Book with 10 career goals.
McKenna Vento also moved into fifth place with 31 career points, and has a team-best nine so far this season.
• Joining Vento in the CSU Career Record Book is Dani Sowinski and Jenna Prathapa, Sowinski is tied for second with 11 career assists and Prathapa is tied for ninth with nine career goals.
McKenna Vento leads all Horizon League players with her four goals this season, while Dani Sowinski is also at the top of the standings with six total assists on the year.
Stevie Holbrook recorded five saves in last weekend's victory over IUPUI and has 36 total saves this season. Her 36 saves ranks her fourth among league players.

• The Vikings will travel to Youngstown State for a midweek matchup on Wednesday, September 26 before hosting UIC on Saturday, September 29.
