Three Vikings Score In 4-0 Victory Over Fairleigh Dickinson

WILMINGTON, N.C. – The Cleveland State women's soccer team got back in the win column Friday night, as the Vikings picked up a convincing 4-0 victory over Fairleigh Dickinson in the Courtyard by Marriott UNCW Soccer Invitational. With the win, the Vikings improved to 3-2 on the season, and picked up their first road victory of the year.

Cleveland State was able to outshoot Fairleigh Dickinson 13-9 on the contest, with 10 of those shots coming on goal.

Defensively, Stevie Holbrook played all 90 minutes in goal, recording seven saves marking a career-high.

Cleveland State's game-winning goal came as a penalty kick from Jenna Prathapa just 13 minutes into the contest, marking her second goal of the season.

Essence Canady then put the Vikings up 2-0 in the 34th minute, after blasting a shot off of the goalpost and into the net off a cross from Ja'Maya Ward.

After going into the halftime break with a 2-0 advantage, the Vikings were able to extend their lead to 3-0 in the 53rd minute, when Sarah Krause got off a shot from the far side that beat the goalkeeper on a sharp angle into the back of the net. Krause was able to get her shot off after Dani Sowinski passed the ball into the box, marking her second goal of the year.

Canady was able to post another goal in the 71st minute for the Vikings, scoring on a breakaway goal from a Ward pass marking her second goal of the match and second goal of the season.

Sowinski now has a team-high four assists on the year, while Ward has two helpers.

The Vikings also finished the match with an 8-4 advantage in corner kicks.

Cleveland State will continue play in the Courtyard by Marriott UNCW Soccer Invitational on Sunday (September 2), facing the host UNCW at 1:00 p.m.
