Vikings Fall in Overtime at IUPUI in League Opener

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Cleveland State out-shot IUPUI, 20-11, but the Jaguars used a goal with four minutes left in the first overtime to claim a 1-0 victory over the Vikings in the Horizon League opener on Friday night.

THE GOAL

  • IUPUI scored the game-winner with just over four minutes left in the first overtime. Hayley Shelton took control of a loose ball just outside the box and worked her way to the end line. She sent a cross in front of the CSU that Krissy Kirkhoff flicked with her heel and Miranda Ricks knocked in her first goal of the season from seven yards out.
  • The Vikings had several quality chances with seven shots on goal. McKenna Vento's shot in the 86th minute hit the crossbar and deflected out, while Aliani Lorenzo had three shots over a two minute span (77th to 79th minute) that Lipka saved.
  • Just before halftime, Bianca Sarti's shot off a corner kick sailed high and Jenna Prathapa's shot with less than a minute to go in the first half also sailed high.
  • Ashley Thiss had corner kicks in the 34th and 36th minutes that led to shots by Toni Dickson and Vento, but Lipka saved both attempts.
