Week #5

THE OPENING KICK:
    •    The Cleveland State women's soccer team opens Horizon League play on Friday (Sept. 15) with a 7:00 pm match at IUPUI.
    •    It will be the first Horizon League match for IUPUI after the Jaguars joined the League in June.
    •    CSU is 3-2 all-time against IUPUI, including a 1-1 mark in Indianapolis. The Vikings won the last meeting against IUPUI, 5-1, in 2012, which was the last time the two programs played.

LAST WEEK:
    •    After playing five of its first six matches away from home, CSU returned to Krenzler Field for three matches last week.
    •    The Vikings defeated Canisius, 2-0, on Wednesday, dropped a 2-0 match on Friday night to Toledo and knocked off Niagara, 3-0, on Sunday.
    •    McKenna Vento scored a goal with an assist in the win over Canisius, while Bianca Sarti scored a goal. Jenna Prathapa notched an assist.
    •    In the victory over Niagara, Vento netted CSU's first goal, while Prathapa added two goals to give the Vikings a 3-0 lead at the half. Dani Sowinski and Ashley Thiss had assists.
    •    Prathapa became the 16th player in school history to score two goals in a game.
    •    Jamie Daniels made 10 saves over the three matches.

FREE KICKS:
    •    A total of 19 different players have earned a starting assignment this year with three players - Jamie Daniels, Essence Canady and Ashley Thiss starting all nine games.
    •    CSU's 25 player roster features 17 players who are in their first or second season with the Vikings. The roster has eight freshmen and eight sophomores, as well as junior Sydney Duggan who spent her first two seasons at Oakland.
    •    The 2017 roster has just two seniors in midfielder Katie Bainbridge and goalkeeper Jamie Daniels.
    •    Bainbridge is tied for third in school history with 10 career assists. She is one assist shy of moving into a tie for second place with Vickie Havas (11 assists from 2012-15).
    •    Daniels is fourth in program history with 220 career saves and third with 10 shutouts. She is two shutouts shy of moving past Sarah Wood (2011-15) into second place for most career shutouts.
    •    Junior McKenna Vento has six career assists, tied for eighth in school history.
    •    Freshman Jenna Prathapa is tied for second in the Horizon League with five goals and is tied for third in points with 11.
    •    Sophomore Aliani Lorenzo returns to the lineup after playing in just six games last year before an injury cut her season short. Lorenzo scored three goals with one assist in her six matches last year. She scored a goal in CSU's season opener at Xavier.
    •    Head coach Dallas Boyer is in his first season after serving as an assistant coach at CSU for the previous 11 years. Boyer earned his first win as a head coach with a 2-1 victory at Kent State (Aug. 20). It was CSU's second win over Kent State in 11 matches.
    •    CSU owns wins at Kent State and Akron this year, marking the first time in program history that the Vikings have defeated both Northeast Ohio rivals in the same season.

    •    CSU returns home to host Oakland next Saturday (Sept. 23) at 7:00 pm in the Horizon League home opener.
