Week #3

THE OPENING KICK:
    •    The Cleveland State women's soccer team returns to the field for two matches this week, playing at Akron on Thursday (Aug. 31) at 7:00 pm and at Butler on Sunday (Sept. 3) at 4:00 pm.
    •    The two matches this week will conclude a stretch in which CSU opens the season with five of its first six matches away from home.
    •    The Vikings are 1-3 this year, while Akron enters the week at 1-2-1. Butler begins this week with a 2-1-1 record.
    •    Thursday's match will be the 10th all-time meeting between CSU and Akron with the Zips holding a 7-2 advantage in the series, including a 4-2 win at Krenzler Field last season.
    •    CSU and Butler will also be meeting for the 10th time on Sunday with the Bulldogs holding a 5-3-1 lead in the series. The teams have not played since a 1-1 draw in the 2015 season opener.

LAST WEEK:
    •    The Vikings dropped a pair of matches last week, including a 2-1 setback to Binghamton in the home opener on Friday afternoon. CSU also fell at Ohio, 1-0, on Sunday afternoon.
    •    Jenna Prathapa scored the goal in CSU's setback to Binghamton off an assist from Katie Bainbridge.
    •    Jamie Daniels combined to make 13 saves in the two matches last week.

FREE KICKS:
    •    A total of 15 different players have earned a starting assignment for CSU this year with eight players - Jamie Daniels, Essence Canady, Carly Cerny, Toni Dickson, Stacie Morris, Briana Niedermeier, Jenna Prathapa and Ashley Thiss starting all four games.
    •    The duo of Dickson and Canady has been on the field for every minute of every match this year.
    •    CSU's 25 player roster features 17 players who are in their first or second season with the Vikings. The roster has eight freshmen and eight sophomores, as well as junior Sydney Duggan who spent her first two seasons at Oakland.
    •    The 2017 roster has just two seniors in midfielder Katie Bainbridge and goalkeeper Jamie Daniels.
    •    Bainbridge is tied for third in school history with 10 career assists. She is one assist shy of moving into a tie for second place with Vickie Havas (11 assists from 2012-15).
    •    Daniels is fourth in program history with 201 career saves and third with seven shutouts. She is 10 saves shy of moving past Erin Winthrow (2005-06) into third place.
    •    Junior McKenna Vento has five career assists, tied for 10th in school history.
    •    Sophomore Aliani Lorenzo returns to the lineup after playing in just six games last year before an injury cut her season short. Lorenzo scored three goals with one assist in her six matches last year. She scored a goal in CSU's season opener at Xavier.
    •    Head coach Dallas Boyer is in his first season after serving as an assistant coach at CSU for the previous 11 years. Boyer earned his first win as a head coach with a 2-1 victory at Kent State (Aug. 20). It was CSU's second win over Kent State in 11 matches.

UP NEXT:
    •    The Vikings return to action with three home matches next week, which starts a stretch of CSU playing five of six matches at home.
    •    CSU will host Canisius on Wednesday (Sept. 6) at 7:00 pm, Toledo at 7:00 pm on Friday (Sept. 8) and Niagara on Sunday (Sept. 10) at 1:00 pm.
