Vikings Win at Kent State, 2-1; Host Home Opener on Friday

KENT, Ohio - Freshman Jenna Prathapa scored her second goal in as many games and freshman Grace Grant added her first career goal as Cleveland State won at Kent State, 2-1, on Sunday afternoon at Dix Stadium.

CSU improved to 1-1 this year, while the Golden Flashes fell to 0-2.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS

Grace Grant gave the Vikings a 1-0 lead just five minutes into the game with her first career goal with a shot from 40 yards out that was chipped over the goalkeeper.
Ashley Thiss had the assist on Grant's goal.
• The Vikings took a 2-0 lead in the 17th minute when Jenna Prathapa connected on a penalty kick. It was the second goal of the weekend for Prathapa as she also netted a goal in Friday's setback at Xavier.
• The Golden Flashes sliced the deficit to 2-1 with four minutes left in the half.

•  Jamie Daniels played all 90 minutes for the Vikings, making four saves.

KEY STATS

•  Today's win was the second for CSU against Kent State in program history with the other win coming in 2009. The teams have now played 11 times.
•  First-year head coach Dallas Boyer earned his first win on the sidelines for CSU. Boyer spent the last 11 seasons as an assistant coach for the Vikings.
•  Kent State held a 14-8 advantage in shots and an 8-1 lead in corner kicks. The Vikings were whistled for 12 fouls to just four for Kent State.
•  Daniels, Essence Canady and Toni Dickson all played 90 minutes for CSU, the second straight match that the trio played the entire game.
