Vikings Fall a Xavier, 3-2, in Season Opener

CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Cleveland State women's soccer team dropped its season opener, 3-2, on Friday evening at Xavier.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS

•  Following a scoreless opening half, the teams combined to score all five goals in the second half.
•  Samantha Dewey netted the first goal of the match at the 62:32 mark of the match to give Xavier a 1-0 lead. She added another goal eight minutes later to extend the Muskateers lead to 2-0.
•  Just 1:16 later, Xavier extended the lead to 3-0 on a goal from Sydney Schembri.
•  However, the Vikings began to rally as Lorenzo scored at the 77:40 mark when she knocked in a loose ball off a corner kick.
•  Prathapa - a native of Loveland, Ohio who was playing near her hometown - netted her first career collegiate goal with 6:20 to play when she knocked in a loose ball in front of the goal off a corner kick, slicing the CSU deficit to 3-2.

•  Xavier held a slim 12-10 advantage in shots, while both teams took two corner kicks.
