THE OPENING KICK:
    •    The Cleveland State women's soccer team opens the 2017 season with a pair of matches this weekend.
    •    The two matches begin a stretch that has the Vikings opening the season with five of their first six matches away from home.
    •    Following that stretch, CSU will play five of six matches at home.
    •    The Vikings kick off the season with a 6:00 pm match at Xavier on Friday (Aug. 18) and play at Kent State on Sunday (Aug. 20) at 1:00 pm.
    •    Friday's match will be the first in program history against Xavier. The Vikings have played Kent State 10 times in school history, the last time coming in 2015.
    •    This will be the 14th season in the history of the women's soccer program at CSU. Head coach Dallas Boyer is in his first season at the helm after serving as an assistant coach for the last 10 seasons.

THE PRESEASON:
    •    The Vikings won a pair of exhibition matches in the preseason, winning at Buffalo, 1-0, on Wednesday (Aug. 9) and defeating Duquesne, 2-1, at Krenzler Field on Saturday (Aug. 12).
    •    McKenna Vento scored a goal in each game, while Aliani Lorenzo netted the game-winner in the win over Duquesne.
    •    Vento's corner kick found the net in the win at Buffalo and she added a goal in the eighth minute vs. Duquesne. Lorenzo scored the game-winner vs. Duquesne with just five minutes left in the match.
    •    Ashley Thiss had both assists in the victory over Duquesne.
    •    Jamie Daniels made one save against Buffalo, while Bridget Adams posted two as the duo combined for the shutout.
    •    Daniels made two saves vs. Duquesne, while Stevie Holbrook also posted two saves, playing the final 17 minutes in goal.

FREE KICKS:
    •    The 2017 roster features just two seniors in midfielder Katie Bainbridge and goalkeeper Jamie Daniels.
    •    Bainbridge ranks fifth in school history with five career assists.
    •    Daniels is fourth in program history with 179 career saves and third with seven shutouts.
    •    Junior McKenna Vento begins her third season with five career assists, which is tied for 10th in school history.
    •    Sophomore Aliani Lorenzo returns to the lineup this year after playing in just six games last year before an injury cut her season short. Lorenzo scored three goals with one assist in her six matches last year.
    •    A trio of freshmen - Jenna Prathapa, Essence Canady and Grace Grant - earned starting assignments in Wednesday's (Aug. 9) exhibition match at Buffalo, while Canady also drew a starting assignment versus Duquesne.
    •    CSU's 25 player roster features 17 players who are in their first or second season with the Vikings. The roster has eight freshmen and eight sophomores, as well as junior Sydney Duggan who spent her first two seasons at Oakland.
