Two Late Goals Push Vikings Past Youngstown State, 2-1

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Ashley Thiss and McKenna Vento scored goals late in the second half to help Cleveland State rally for a 2-1 victory at Youngstown State in Horizon League action on Wednesday night.

THE GOALS

• YSU took a 1-0 lead at the 60:42 mark on a goal from Marissa Martin.
• The lead would last just 10 minutes as Ashley Thiss netted her second goal of the season off an assist from Toni Dickson to tie the match at 1-1 with just under 19 minutes to play.
• Dickson sent a free kick toward goal and Thiss was able to head the ball past the YSU goalkeeper for CSU's first goal of the night.
• The game-winner came at the 79:10 mark when McKenna Vento scored her first goal of the season.
Katie Bainbridge recorded the assist on the game-winner, sending a cross into the box that Vento headed in.

IN THE NET

• Jamie Daniels earned the win in the net. She did not make a save as the Vikings limited YSU to just seven shots and only one on goal.

KEY STATS

• CSU held an 18-7 advantage in shots, including 8-1 in shots on goal.
• The Vikings also took eight corner kicks to zero for YSU.
Emily Edgell, Megan Barrick and Bianca Sarti each played 90 minutes in the backline, helping hold the Penguins to just one shot on goal.
