Sargema, Wood & Bainbridge Earn All-League Honors

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Cleveland State sophomore Kaila Sargema and junior Sarah Wood were named to the women's soccer All-Horizon League second team that was announced on Monday afternoon.

In addition, freshman Katie Bainbridge was selected to the all-newcomer team.

It is the first time the trio has earned postseason all-league honors.

Wood had another strong season in goal for the Vikings, ranking fourth in the league in saves (69) and goals against average (0.96) and having in hand in seven shutouts this year, tying the program record for most in a season. Wood, who has played just under 1,600 minutes in goal this year, posted a save percentage of .802 and had a streak of almost 400 straight minutes without allowing a goal late in the season.

Sargema, who missed the first seven matches of the year with a foot injury, came on strong upon her return, finishing the year with four goals and eight points as a key substitute off the bench. Her biggest goal of the season came in a 1-0 overtime win over Wright State on Oct. 8 when she netted the game-winner four minutes into the extra session.

Bainbridge has played well in her first season at CSU, appearing in all 18 matches with five starts, tallying one goal with three assists. Her lone goal of the season came in a 1-0 double overtime win over UIC on Oct. 18 with just four minutes to play.

The Vikings, who are 8-8-2 overall, will open play in the Horizon League Championship with a first round match on Monday (Nov. 3) night at Oakland at 7:00 p.m.
