Wood Named Horizon League Defensive Player of the Week

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Cleveland State junior goalkeeper Sarah Wood (Spokane, Wash.) has been named the Horizon League Defensive Player of the Week for the week of Sept. 8-14.

Wood earned the honor after recording two shutouts and helping CSU go 1-0-1 on its two-match road swing through New York over the weekend. In a 4-0 win over Canisius on Friday, Wood made two saves and followed that with an eight save effort in Sunday's 0-0 draw at Niagara. Wood has notched three shutouts this year and has given up just three goals in the last six matches, helping CSU post a 4-1-1 mark in those contests.

Wood leads the Horizon League with 41 saves and is second in shutouts (3) and fourth in goals against average (1.05).

Her 226 career saves rank second all-time at CSU.

The Vikings are back in action on Friday (Sept. 19) when CSU hosts Eastern Kentucky at 7:00 p.m. at Krenzler Field as part of Homecoming Weekend. It will be the final nonconference match of the season for CSU.
