Vikings Drop Season Finale at Wright State, 1-0

FAIRBORN, Ohio - The Cleveland State women's soccer team had its season come to an end with a 1-0 loss at Wright State on Friday night in Horizon League action.

The Vikings conclude the year with an 8-9-1 overall record and a 2-5 mark in the Horizon League. Wright State improved to 8-5-4 overall and 5-1-1 in the league.

CSU just missed out on a spot in the league championship, tying with Youngstown State with six points for the sixth and final spot in the tournament. However, the Penguins earned the tiebreaker with their 1-0 win over CSU this season.

The Raiders will be the No. 2 seed in the league championship, earning a bye into the semifinals.

"I thought we did a very good job of defending their style of play tonight," head coach Derrek Falor said. "It was a much more competitive match this year and I am proud of this program and the way they fought hard not only tonight, but all season long.

"There was a dramatic improvement from last season and now it's about taking that last step of growth and becoming better in key moments and situations."

The lone goal of tonight's match came at the 79:06 mark when Liz Soto headed in a corner kick from Emilie Fillion.

Wright State held a 16-4 advantage in shots, as sophomore Sarah Wood made six saves, finishing the year with 120 saves, fourth most in a season in CSU history.

Sophomore Vickie Havas led the team in goals (7) and points (18) and shared the team-lead in assists with four with Amanda Sivic.

CSU's defense was equally impressive all year, giving up just 22 goals, tying the single season school record set by the 2011 team. The five shutouts were also the second most in a season in program history.
