CLEVELAND, Ohio - An early second half goal off a corner kick proved to be the difference as Cleveland State dropped a 1-0 decision to Youngstown State in Horizon League women's soccer action on Wednesday night at Krenzler Field.

CSU fell to 7-7-1 overall and 1-3 in league play, while the Penguins moved to 4-9-1 overall and 2-2 in the Horizon League.

After a scoreless first half, YSU tallied the lone goal of the match in the 59th minute when Katie Hohmann sent a corner kick into the box. After a short scrum, Cara Armstrong was able to get the ball past CSU goalkeeper Sarah Wood for what turned out to be the game-winning goal.

The Vikings had several good scoring chances, the first coming in the 18th minute when a shot by Chloe Fadenholz from 20 yards out hit the crossbar. Sarah Kaiser had a follow-up shot, but it was saved by YSU's goalkeeper Jackie Podolsky.

At the 29:21 mark, Vickie Havas worked her way to the top of the box and unleashed a left-footed shot, but Podolsky was once again up to the task, making a diving stop to her left to preserve a scoreless match.

CSU managed 12 corner kicks on the night and outshot YSU, 12-10.

Wood tallied five saves, while Podolsky made six saves to earn the shutout.

The Vikings are back in action on Saturday (Oct. 19) when CSU travels to Green Bay for a 1:00 p.m. EST match.
