CLEVELAND, Ohio - Cleveland State earned three points in the Horizon League opener on Saturday with a 2-0 victory over Detroit at Krenzler Field.

The Vikings, improved to 7-4-1 overall and 1-0 in league play. CSU, which is 5-0-1 in its last six matches, also stayed undefeated at home this year (6-0-1). The six match unbeaten streak is the longest in program history.

Detroit fell to 5-5-1 overall and 0-1 in league play.

It was just the second time in program history CSU has defeated the Titans, the last coming in 2009, a 1-0 win at Krenzler Field.

The clean sheet was the fourth shutout of the season for CSU, as the Vikings have surrendered just two goals over the last six matches.

Sarah Wood posted four saves, raising her season total to 82, while earning her fourth shutout of the season.

The Vikings got on the board 25 minutes into the match when sophomore Vickie Havas scored on a free kick from 20 yards out on the left wing from just outside the box. It was the team and league-leading sixth goal of the season for Havas. She raised her career point total to 30, becoming just the fourth player in program history to reach the mark.

Junior Amanda Sivic made it 2-0 at the 58:53 mark with her fourth goal of the season off a Taylor Vidovic assist.

Vidovic started the play just past midfield when she flicked a ball towards Sivic with her head. Sivic took control and beat her defender up the field, unleashing a shot from just outside the box on the left wing that beat the Titan keeper to the far post.

It was all the Vikings needed in posting their fourth shutout in the last six matches.

CSU is back in action on Saturday (Oct. 5) when the Vikings travel to Valparaiso for an 8:30 p.m. EST match.
