ATHENS, Ohio - Playing on the road for the fifth time in seven matches this season, the Cleveland State women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision at Ohio on Sunday afternoon.

CSU slipped to 2-5 with the loss, while Ohio improved to 4-3 this season.

"We are still making some bad decisions, but that is going to come with such a young team," head coach Derrek Falor said. "We are making some progress from game to game and I thought our defense was much improved from last week. However, we had trouble scoring goals and our possession has not been very good recently, especially when under pressure.

"We have a full week to prepare for our next match and that is going to be a very important one since it's our final match before league play starts."

The Bobcats got on the board first at the 9:02 mark when Holly Harris netted her first goal of the season.

However, it didn't take long for the Vikings to respond at tie the match at 1-1 as freshman Vickie Havas scored less than two minutes later off an assist from Jackie Kurgan at the 10:58 mark.

For Havas, it was her second goal of the season and allowed her to take over the team lead with seven points this year on two goals and a team-leading three assists.

It was Kurgan's first point this season.

"We built up a nice attack in the midfield and Jaime (Avona) played a great ball wide to Jackie," Falor said. "Jackie was able to get a through ball to Vickie and she beat her defender and got the ball by the keeper at the near post. It was a great play from start to finish and a good response after giving up that early goal."

The contest would stay knotted at 1-1 until the 62nd minute when the Bobcats took advantage of winning a corner kick. Cat Rogers sent the corner into the box where it was headed by Annie Beard before finally being knocked into the back of the net by Harris for her second goal of the game.

The Vikings had a chance late to tie it, but a shot by Taylor Vidovic in the 85th minute was saved.

Ohio attempted more shots than CSU, 15-6, and also had more shots on goal (7-4).

Becca Coleman made five saves in goal for the Vikings, while a trio of Ohio goalkeepers combined to make three saves.

The Vikings are back in action next Sunday (Sept. 16) when CSU hosts Longwood at 1:00 p.m. at Krenzler Field.
