CLEVELAND, Ohio - Playing at home for just the second time this season and the first time since the season opener three weeks ago, the Cleveland State women's soccer team fell to Akron on Friday night, 2-0, at Krenzler Field.

The loss drops CSU to 2-4 this season, while Akron improves to 3-2.

The first half didn't feature a lot of offensive chances as both teams struggled to find an offensive rhythm. CSU's best scoring chance came with about five minutes to play in the half when Vickie Havas sent a shot just wide from about 20 yards out on a counter attack.

Havas was at it again early in the second half, but her blast five minutes in was saved by Akron's Alex Luevano-Harden and Jaime Avona's follow up was blocked by an Akron defender. 

Akron was able to break the scoreless tie in the 67th minutes when Megan Waskowski took a pass from Kelly DeNiro on the far right side of the box and beat CSU's Becca Coleman to the upper left corner.

The Zips put their second goal on the board in the 83rd minute.

It started with a corner kick that sailed over the pack in the box, but was controlled on the far side by Karina Atkinson. She was able to cross the ball back and DeNiro controlled it and scored for a 2-0 lead.

That was all the Zips needed as Luevano-Harden made three saves to earn the shutout. Coleman made four saves for the Vikings.

Both teams recorded 10 shots with Akron holding a 9-5 advantage in corner kicks.

CSU is back in action on Sunday (Sept. 9) when the Vikings head to Ohio for a 1:00 p.m. match.
