COLUMBIA HILLS, Ohio - Cleveland State claimed the first team title in school history on Sunday afternoon, winning the Yellow Jacket Invitational with a final round 324 at the par-72, 6,154-yard Creekwood G.C.

Combined with Saturday's opening round 327, the Vikings claimed an 11-shot victory over runner-up Clarion (662).

CSU entered the final round tied for the lead with Clarion.

"Although we didn't play our best today, I felt this was a great day overall because it showed that we could sleep on a lead and come out and win a tournament," assistant coach Nathan Miklos said. "I am proud of the way we battled, especially down the stretch. The four scores we counted played the last two holes in two-under-par.

"This experience will help us as we move forward this season. It proved that we can play under pressure and I am pleased with the way we finished today."

Senior Katie Broere carded a final round 77 to take runner-up honors in the individual race. She finished at 156 (79-77), four shots behind Clarion's Jenna Rinker who shot a two-round total of 152 (73-79).

Senior Laren Beese placed third at 159 (80-79), while sophomore Ariel Sparrow tied for fourth place (77-85 - 162).

The Vikings will be back in action on Sept. 28 when CSU competes at the Youngstown State Invitational.
