COLUMBIANA, Ohio - Cleveland State shot an opening round 333 and is in fifth place out of eight teams at the season opening Youngstown State Invitational at the par-72, 5,932-yard Firestone Farms G.C.

The Vikings are just seven shots behind second place Bethel College which opened with a 326. Bethel is followed by Walsh (329) and Dayton (332).

"I thought we had a pretty good opening round," assistant coach Nathan Miklos said. "For such a young team, we did a great job of managing the golf course and limiting our mistakes. We are right in the mix and a good round tomorrow could vault us up a few spots."

Ariel Sparrow led the Vikings with an opening round 80 (38-42) and is tied for fifth place overall, just four shots out of second place.

Madeline Kaminski is tied for 12th place following a first round 82 (41-41), while Lisa Barber is tied for 23rd (85) and Micaela Cronin is tied for 26th (86).

The final round of the event is scheduled for Tuesday with a shotgun start at 9:00 a.m.
