Women’s Golf announces 2022 signing class with three new Vikings

CLEVELAND – The Cleveland State women's golf program and head coach Ryan Williams have finalized the Vikings 2022 CSU signing class, a trio of student-athletes that features Abby Blackburn, Brynna Mardis and Kaylin Kline.

The announcement was made official on Thursday.

ABBY BLACKBURN | CANTON, OHIO | NORTH CANTON HIGH SCHOOL

Blackburn is coming to Cleveland by way of North Canton High School. She is fresh off a senior season that included qualifying for the Ohio Championships and being named an All-District selection by the Northeast Ohio Golf Coaches Association.

Over her high school career, Blackburn has posted one victory, one third-place finish and 22 top-10 finishes over 36 events played. She also placed 34th overall for girls aged 16-19 in the Northern Ohio PGA Junior Golf standings in 2021.

"Abby has had a solid high school and junior career and we are excited to bring her to Cleveland," Williams said. "She has a great work ethic on and off the course, and she is exactly what we look for at Cleveland State."

BRYNNA MARDIS | XENIA, OHIO | XENIA HIGH SCHOOL

Mardis joins Cleveland State out of Xenia High School, where she etched her name atop just about all of the program's golf records. The Xenia, Ohio native holds the school's nine-hole record (34 over nine holes) as well as the record for lowest score at a road match (35 over nine holes).

She was also a part of Xenia's undefeated district qualifying team.

"Brynna has a really solid foundation and a ton of potential for growth," Williams said. "She has played a lot of tournaments as of late and is gaining a lot of great experience. She is someone that will continue to grow and get better throughout her entire career, and we are excited for her to become a Viking!"

KAYLIN KLINE | BUFFALO, NEW YORK | HOLLAND HIGH SCHOOL

Kline is coming to CSU by way of Holland High School, located just outside of Buffalo, NY. After graduating high school early in January, Kline has been sharpening her game at the Saddlebrook Golf Academy in Wesley Chapel, Florida as the only United States student-athlete enrolled at the institution.

Kline has been a multi-year qualifier for the Sectional and New York State Golf Championships during her high school career.

"Kaylin is an incredible athlete and her background in basketball has proven to be a great frame for her to grow and become a serious competitive golfer," Williams said. "She has spent the last year improving her game dramatically. I am excited to have her join us. I see Kaylin becoming a great college player and a huge part of this team."

The Vikings are fresh off a 2022 Spring campaign that included the program's first tournament win in six years with a victory at the Nevel Meade Collegiate and a third-place finish to close the season at the Horizon League Championships.
