TOURNAMENT PREVIEW
CLEVELAND -- The Cleveland State women's golf team resumes its fall schedule as it will compete in the Cardinal Classic hosted by Ball State. The tournament will begin on Monday (Sept. 16) on the Players Club course.
This will mark the third consecutive year that Cleveland State will be competing in the tournament. The Vikings finished eighth in the field last season and were 11th in 2017. The Cardinal Classic has been held every year except once since the 2001-02 season.
Last season, Cleveland State was eighth in the field led by Madison Butler who finished 11th overall after shooting 75-77-72.
Eleven teams will be competing in this year's tournament. Participants include: Ball State, Bowling Green, Bradley, Dayton, Eastern Michigan, IUPUI, Prairie View A&M, Taylor, Western Illinois and Western Michigan.
The first 36-holes of play will begin on Monday at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start. Tuesday's final round will begin with a shotgun start at 9 a.m.
The Players Club is a par-72, 6,204-yard course in Yorktown, Ind.
This will mark the Vikings second tournament of the season having participated in the Roseann Schwartz Invitational to open the season. The Vikings opened the season by placing second at the event with a team score of 619.
Butler led the Vikings as she finished fifth in the tournament after shooting rounds of 73 and 77. Ashley Knight also earned a top-10 finish for Cleveland State as she was tied for seventh with rounds of 75-77.
Three Vikings, Grace Zimmerman, Averi Hanna and Lexi Knight, tied for 14th at the tournament with a score of 160.
