Cleveland State Opens Play at MAC Preview

RESULTS

NOBLESVILLE, Ind. - The Cleveland State University women's golf team opened action at the MAC Fall Preview by playing 36 holes Sunday.

Competing at the par-72, 5,991-yard Purgatory Golf Club, CSU sits in 10th place at +37 (613). The Vikings followed up an opening-round 303 with a second-round 310.

Sophomore Ashley Knight was the best-scoring Viking after the opening day of play. Knight had an inauspicious start to the day by making double bogey and bogey on the first two holes. However, she dug in and recovered nicely. She played the ensuing 16 holes in just +1 to complete her opening round at +4 (76). Knight did not make a double bogey (or worse) in the second round and shot +3 (75) to finish the day at +7 (151).

Sophomore Madison Butler had the lowest opening round by a Viking as she used two birdies, three bogeys and 13 pars to shoot +1 (73). Butler struggled to score in the second round as her 80 left her at +9 (153) for the event.

Junior Kaylee Neumeister rebounded well from an opening-round 83. Back-to-back birdies on the first and second holes in the second round, her 33rd and 34th holes of the day, helped her to a +3 (75) over her second 18, leaving her with 158 strokes for the day.

Freshman Grace Zimmerman shot a season-low 75 in the opening round on the strength of 15 pars. A second-round 84 left her with a cumulative score of 159. Classmate Meg Rossouw also finished with a total score of 159 as she shot 79-80.

Knight's 75 was her best round since the opening tournament of the fall.

Cleveland State will play the final 18 holes of its fall season Monday with a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m.
