RESULTS

YORKTOWN, Ind. - The Cleveland State University women's golf team is in ninth place of 16 teams after the opening day of the Cardinal Classic.

CSU shot an opening-round 307 and followed it up with a 311 to post 618 (+42) after the first day of play. The event is hosted by Ball State at The Players Club, a par-72 playing 6,204 yards.

After pacing the Vikings in their season-opening event at Youngstown State, sophomore Madison Butler was again the top Viking after 36 holes of play Monday.

Butler used three birdies, six bogeys and nine pars to shoot +3 (75) in the opening round before falling slightly with a +5 (77) in the second round. Her total of +8 (152) puts her in a tie for 22nd.

Junior Kaylee Neumeister sits one shot behind Butler after the opening two rounds. She played just five holes over par in the opening round, leaving her with a 77. With the help of four birdies, she found a shot in the afternoon round, as her second-round 76 left her at +9 (153) for the day. Neumeister did not make a double bogey (or worse) all day.

Freshman Grace Zimmerman used three birdies, five bogeys and a lone double to shoot an opening-round 76, her second straight 76 after posting that score in the final round at YSU. After an 80 in the second round, she finished the day at +12 (156).

Sophomore Ashley Knight shot 79-78 to slot one spot behind Zimmerman heading into the final round. Classmate Amanda Baker, playing in the lineup for the first time this season, used 164 strokes during the two rounds Monday.

The final 18 holes of the event will be played Tuesday with action beginning with a 9:00 a.m. shotgun start.
