Butler Takes Third as CSU Posts Sub-300 Round

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Sophomore Madison Butler finished in a tie for third to lead the Cleveland State University women's golf team to a third-place team showing at the season-opening Roseanne Schwartz Invitational Tuesday.

The 36-hole event was played at Mill Creek Park's North Course, a par-72 measuring 5,957 yards.

CSU shot a 299 Tuesday, marking just the fourth round in program history under 300. The Vikings finished the tournament with a +24 (600). Cleveland State's performance was 22 shots better than when it opened at the same course last season.

Butler shot a +2 (74) to close the event at +2 (146). She tied for the lead in the field in par-3 scoring (3.00) and was tied for third in the event in par-4 scoring (4.15).

Junior Kaylee Neumeister matched Butler's 74 Tuesday to finish at +5 (149) while sophomore Ashley Knight equaled Neumeister's tournament total after shooting 75 Tuesday. Both finished in a tie for ninth place.

Both Viking freshmen showed substantial improvement from the first day to the second.

Grace Zimmerman found eight strokes from Monday's round to shot +4 (76). She finished at +16 (160). Meg Rossouw, playing as an individual, dropped six shots from the opening 18 holes as she posted a +5 (77) and matched Zimmerman's cumulative total of 160.

Senior Rayna Oosterhuis, in her first event back after missing the entirety of 2017-18 due to injury, shot an 83 Tuesday and finished at +19 (163).

Sophomore Amanda Baker, playing as an individual, shot a +3 (75) to finish at +9 (153), putting her in a tie for 14th.

Cleveland State will be back in action at the Cardinal Classic, hosted by Ball State, Sept. 17-18.
