Women's Golf in Sixth Place After First Round of League Championship

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. - The Cleveland State women's golf team opened the Horizon League Championship with a 334 and is in sixth place at the event that began on Sunday at the par-73, 6,171-yard Las Colinas Course at Mission Inn Resort.

IUPUI leads after a first round 317 and is three shots ahead of Oakland which shot 320. UIC is in third at 330 and is closely followed by Detroit Mercy (331), Green Bay (333), CSU (334), Youngstown State (335) and Northern Kentucky (339).

Sophomore Kaylee Neumeister and freshman Madison Butler both shot 81 and are tied for 13th place. The duo was named to the All-Horizon League second team at last night's banquet.

Butler played the par threes in even par today, while Neumeister was even par on the par fives.

Freshman Ashley Knight shot 85 and is tied for 23rd, while senior Emily Turski shot 87 and is tied for 28th and Sophie Kelner is tied for 35th after an 89.

The second round of the tournament will be played on Monday with CSU's five players teeing off every 10 minutes beginning at 8:20 am. The Vikings will be paired with Detroit Mercy and Green Bay.
