Powers Resigns as Associate Head Golf Coach to Become Head Men's Golf Coach at BGSU

CLEVELAND, Ohio - John Powers has resigned his position as associate head golf coach at Cleveland State to become the head men's golf coach at Bowling Green.

Powers, who is a graduate of Bowling Green where he was a standout golfer for the Falcons from 2006-10, began his duties at BGSU earlier this week.

"John did a phenomenal job during his time at Cleveland State with the men's and women's golf programs," CSU head coach Steve Weir said. "Not only did he help the men's team evolve, but he also helped get the women's team over the hump to win the first Horizon League Championship in program history. We are going to miss John and everything he brought to the program, but know he will do great things for the program he loves and calls home."

In his only season at the helm at CSU, Powers was instrumental in helping the women's team capture the first Horizon League Championship in program history, as well as a berth in the NCAA regionals.

The team, which featured two juniors, one sophomore and two freshmen in the lineup, finished the season with a single season school record scoring average of 317.2, breaking the old mark of 320.0 set in 2012-13. In addition, the Vikings won two events, claiming the second win in school history at the Golden Grizzlies Invitational (Sept. 26-27) and defeating Oakland and Youngstown State in a tri-meet in Florida on Feb. 21.

CSU's round of 301 in the final round of the EKU Colonel Classic - with the Vikings playing with just four players - was the second lowest round in school history, while the second round 302 at the League Championship was the third lowest round in school history.

In addition, he helped the men's squad claim its fourth straight League title and automatic bid to the NCAA regionals.
