Vikings Open Play at Mary Fossum Invitational

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Cleveland State women's golf team shot rounds of 315-311 and is in eighth place out of 10 teams after the first day of the Mary Fossum invitational that began on Saturday at the par-72, 6,334 yard Forest Akers West GC.

The tournament is being hosted by Michigan State.

INDIVIDUAL HIGHLIGHTS

  • Sophomore Kaylee Neumeister shot rounds of 77-75 and is tied for 14th place with a 36 hole total of 152.
  • She played the par three's in one-over-par today and was also one-over-par on the par five's.
  • Freshman Madison Butler and Ashley Knight are tied for 33rd place at 159. Butler opened with an 80 and shot 79 in the afternoon, while Knight shot 77 in the morning and 82 in the afternoon.
  • Senior Sophie Kelner opened with an 86 and came back with a 75 in round two. She is tied for 43rd place with a 161 total.
  • Kelner was even-par on the par three's today.
  • Senior Emily Turksi shot 81-86 (167) and is tied for 53rd.

TEAM HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Vikings are in eighth place with a 626 total.
  • Host Michigan State leads the tournament with a 563 total, while Toledo (600) and Charlotte (604) are second and third.
  • They are followed by Northern Illinois (616), Xavier (621), Western Michigan and Bowling Green at 622, CSU (626), Eastern Michigan (635) and Central Michigan (647).
  • This is the second tournament of the week for the Vikings who placed 11th of 19 teams at the Cardinal Classic on Monday and Tuesday, which included a school record low round of 292 in the first round.
