Butler Claims Medalist Honors as Vikings Finish Third at Roseanne Schwartz Invitational

BOARDMAN, Ohio - Cleveland State freshman Madison Butler claimed medalist honors in her first collegiate tournament to help the Vikings finish third of 10 teams at the Roseanne Schwartz Invitational that concluded on Tuesday at the par-72 Mill Creek GC.

Butler is the first Viking to claim medalist honors at an event since Kaylee Neumeister was co-medalist at a tri-meet with Oakland and Youngstown State in February. It is the ninth time a CSU player has been medalist at a tournament and Butler becomes the fifth player in program history to win a tournament.

Butler, who shot an even-par 72 in Monday's first round, carded a 77 today to finish with a 36-hole total of 149 to finish two shots ahead of four golfers who tied for second place.

Neumeister shot her second straight round of 76 and tied for sixth place with a 152 total to give the Vikings a pair of top-10 finishers.

Freshman Amanda Baker tied Neumeister for the low round on the team today with a 76 and finished tied for 20th in her first collegiate tournament with a 160 total (84-76). Senior Emily Turski shot 82-80 (162) and tied for 25th place, while senior Sophie Kelner shot 83-80 (163) and tied for 29th place.

The Vikings are now out of action until Sept. 18-19 when CSU competes in the Cardinal Classic in Yorktown, Ind.
