Vikings in Second Place at Roseann Schwartz Invitational; Butler Leads After a 72

BOARDMAN, Ohio - Cleveland State shot a first round 313 - highlighted by an even-par 72 from Madison Butler - and is in second place out of 10 teams at the season opening Roseann Schwartz Invitational that began on Monday at Mill Creek G.C.

Butler, who is playing in her first collegiate event, led the field with 14 pars in the opening round, while adding two birdies to take the 18 hole lead by three shots over Shelby Brauckmuller of Marshall.

CSU sophomore Kaylee Neumeister is tied for third place following an opening round 76 that included an eagle and nine pars. She was one of just two players to make an eagle in the opening round.

Senior Emily Turski is tied for 23rd place following an 82, while senior Sophie Kelner is tied for 29th after an 83. Freshman Amanda Baker is tied for 35th place at 84.

Kelner made three birdies in the first round, tied for second most in the field.

Freshman Ashley Knight and sophomore Brooke Ciccone are playing as individuals in the event. Knight shot a first round 80 and is tied for 16th, while Ciccone is in 60th place after a 90.

Marshall holds the team lead with a 310 total, three shots ahead of CSU, while Akron is in third place at 315. Indiana State is in fourth place at 317 and is followed by Dayton (324), Youngstown State (328), Niagara (332), Evansville (336), St. Francis (Pa.) at 343 and Wheeling (351).

The final round will be played on Tuesday with teams teeing off with tee times. CSU will be in the final grouping with Marshall and Akron and will tee off on the first tee between 8:54 am and 9:30 am.

CSU's individuals, Ciccone and Knight, will tee off at 8:27 am and 8:36 am on the 10th tee.
