CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland State women's golf team had five student-athletes earn Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American Scholar honors that were announced on Wednesday afternoon.
Juniors Sophie Kelner and Emily Turski, sophomore Rayna Oosterhuis and freshmen Ellie Cronin and Kaylee Neumesiter all earned the honor.
The quintet helped CSU claim the first Horizon League Championship in program history and a berth in the NCAA regionals.
Kelner, a second team All-Horizon League selection, sports a 3.60 GPA as a Film & TV major, while Turski carries a 3.70 grade point average as a health sciences major. Kelner posted a 79.5 scoring average this year, seventh best in program history, while Turski had an 82.7 average, which included a career-low round of 75 in the second round of the League championship.
Oosterhuis, who sports a 3.66 GPA as a finance major, was the runner-up at the League championship, firing back-to-back career-low rounds of 74 to open the tournament.
Neumeister, who was a first team All-Horizon League selection, led the team with a 78.1 scoring average, the third lowest in a season in program history. She carries a 3.80 GPA as a chemical engineering major.
Cronin, who posted an 80.8 scoring average in her first collegiate season, had a 3.58 GPA as a marketing major.
The women's golf team also claimed the "Best of the Best" Award at the 27th Annual John Konstantinos Athletics Academic Honors Luncheon in April. The award is presented to the CSU athletics team with the highest GPA with the women's golf squad holding a 3.67 GPA as a team.
A minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.50 is required for the team. A total of 952 student-athletes from Divisions I, II, and III were named to the team.
