COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Cleveland State women's golf team concluded the best season in program history at the final round of the NCAA Columbus Regional on Wednesday at the par-72, 6,416 yard Scarlet Course.
CSU shot a final round 328 today and finished in 18th place with a three-day, 54-hole total of 996.
The Vikings advanced to the NCAA regionals after capturing the first Horizon League Championship in program history in late April. CSU, which featured two juniors, one sophomore and two freshmen in the lineup, finished the 2016-17 season with a single season school record scoring average of 317.2, breaking the old mark of 320.0 set in 2012-13.
In addition, the Vikings won two events this year, claiming the second win in school history at the Golden Grizzlies Invitational (Sept. 26-27) and defeating Oakland and Youngstown State in a tri-meet in Florida on Feb. 21.
CSU's round of 301 in the final round of the EKU Colonel Classic - with the Vikings playing with just four players - was the second lowest round in school history, while the second round 302 at the League Championship was the third lowest round in school history.
Junior Sophie Kelner was CSU's top finisher at the NCAA regionals with a 54-hole total of 243 (81-82-80) to tie for 80th. Freshman Kaylee Neumeister, a first team All-Horizon League selection, tied for 85th place at 245 (85-80-80), while sophomore Rayna Oosterhuis, the runner-up at the League championship, shot 83-83-84 (250) at tied for 89th.
Freshman Ellie Cronin shot 91-83-84 (258) to place 94th, while junior Emily Turksi was 95th at 263 (93-84-86).
