Vikings Return to Action at EKU Colonel Classic

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland State women's golf team returns to action at the EKU Colonel Classic on Friday and Saturday (March 31-April 1) at the par-72, 5,889-yard University Club at Arlington in Richmond, Ky.

The field will play 36 holes on Friday with an 8:30 am shotgun start with the final 18 holes slated to begin at 9:00 am on Saturday.

In addition to CSU and host Eastern Kentucky, the field includes Horizon League schools Northern Kentucky and Youngstown State, as well as Austin Peay, Ball State, Belmont, Dayton, Louisiana-Monroe, Morehead State, Ohio, Tennessee Tech and University of the Cumberlands.

The Colonel Classic will be the third of four spring events for CSU leading up to the Horizon League Championship. CSU has been out of action since finishing fifth at the Cardinal Challenge (March 17-19).

Freshman Ellie Cronin paced the Vikings as she tied for 14th place, carding rounds of 81-75-80 (236) with her second round 75 tying a career-low.

Juniors Sophie Kelner and Emily Turski tied for 17th place with 36 hole totals of 237. Kelner shot an 81 in the first round and finished with back-to-back rounds of 78, while Turski opened with a 77 - one shy of her career-low - before finishing with consecutive rounds of 80.

Freshman Kaylee Neumesiter leads the team with a 77.1 scoring average this yearand has four top-five finishes in seven events. She also holds the low round of the year among all CSU players with a 70.

Kelner ranks second on the team with a 78.3 average, while Cronin is close behind at 79.3. Turski and Rayna Oosterhuis are both averaging 81.8 this year.

The Vikings close the regular season at the Dolores Black Falcon Invitational on April 8-9 ahead of the Horizon League Championship which takes place from April 23-25 in Florida.
