Vikings Tied for Sixth After First Round of Cardinal Challenge

BEAUMONT, Texas - Cleveland State shot an opening round 318 and is tied for sixth place out of nine teams at the Cardinal Challenge that began on Friday.

Hosted by Lamar, the tournament is being played at the par-71, 6,008-yard Beaumont CC in Beaumont, Texas.

Junior Emily Turski fired CSU's low round of the day with a 77, one shot off tying her career-low and is tied for 12th place. Sophomore Rayna Oosterhuis is tied for 20th place following a 79, while junior Sophie Kelner and freshman Ellie Cronin tied for 25th after each shot 81 in the first round.

Lamar leads the event with a first round 293, while Bradley is second at 303 and Indiana State third at 310. UT-Rio Grande Valley and Southern Illinois are tied for fourth at 312, while CSU and Fairleigh Dickinson are tied for sixth place at 318.

Detroit Mercy is eighth at 323 and Prairie View A&M is ninth at 384.

The second round of the event will be played on Saturday with tee times starting at 1:00 pm.
