
SORRENTO, Fla. – The Cleveland State women's golf team opened the 2017 spring season by winning a tri-meet with fellow Horizon League members Oakland and Youngstown State on Tuesday at the par-72, Red Tail G.C.
CSU carded a team score of 308 to defeat Oakland (314) by six shots, while Youngstown State was third at 316.
TEAM NOTES
- The Vikings were playing their first event this spring after playing an exhibition round with Oakland and YSU on Monday.
- Today's event featured the three teams who were picked at the top of the preseason Horizon League poll. Oakland was tabbed the League favorite, followed by YSU and Cleveland State.
- Today's event continued the strong fall season that CSU had with four top-four finishes, including a one shot victory over Oakland at the Golden Grizzlies Invitational in September.
- Oakland is the defending Horizon League champion, while YSU won the League title in 2015.
INDIVIDUAL HIGHLIGHTS
- Freshman Kaylee Neumeister claimed co-medalist honors with a one-over-par 73. She started her round with a birdie and an eagle.
- For Neumeister, it was her fourth top-five finish in six career events. She finished the fall season with a 76.8 scoring average, third best in the League.
- Freshman Ellie Cronin carded a 75 and tied for third place, while sophomore Rayna Oosterhuis was CSU's third finisher with a 79 and placed 10th.
- Cronin's 75 was the low round of her young CSU career, besting her 76 from the fall.
- Junior Sophie Kelner shot an 81 to tie for 12th place, while junior Emily Turski had an 82 and finished 14th.
