Vikings Return to Action at Colonel Classic

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland State women's golf team returns to action at the Colonel Classic on Friday and Saturday (April 3-4).

The 54-hole event, hosted by Eastern Kentucky, will be played at the par-72, 5,838-yard Arlington G.C. with the field playing 36 holes on Friday and 18 holes on Saturday.

The Vikings are coming off a fourth place finish at the Butler Spring Invitational (March 23-24), carding rounds of 330 and 318 at the event. Junior Allyson Hackman was CSU's top finisher, tying for third place with rounds of 83-69 (152).

Her final round 69 was the second lowest round in school history as Hackman became just the second player to break 70 in a round in program history. Freshman Sophie Kelner shot a 68 during the fall season.

Hackman was honored as the Horizon League Player of the Week and continues to lead the Vikings with a 77.1 scoring average, putting her on pace to break the CSU single season scoring record. Katie Broere's 78.5 in the 2008-09 season is tops in the record books.

In addition, Hackman's 79.4 career scoring average is the best in school history.

In seven events this season, Hackman has five top-five finishes, including a first place finish and a tie for third place in two spring tournaments.

Kelner ranks second on the team with an 81.3 scoring average and has three top-10 finishes this season, including a runner-up finish at the Benbow Invitational (March 9-10) when she fell in a playoff.

Senior Colleen Miller (84.1), freshman Hannah Bennie (84.3) and junior Madison Lomas (85.3) round out CSU's lineup.

The Vikings will close the regular season on April 11-12 when CSU competes in the Bowling Green Invitational.

The Horizon League Championship will be played from April 24-26 in Florida.
