Vikings Return to Action at Butler Spring Invite

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland State women's golf team returns to action at the Butler Spring Invitational on Monday and Tuesday (March 23-24) at the par 71, 6,085-yard Prestwick C.C. in Avon, Ind.

In last year's event, which was shortened to 18 holes due to weather, the Vikings finished as the runner-up by one shot, while then senior Shelly Ford shared medalist honors with a round of 74.

CSU is coming off a runner-up finish at the Benbow Invitational in Jacksonville, Fla., on March 9-10, carding a 36-hole total of 658.

The duo of junior Allyson Hackman and freshman Sophie Kelner both finished with 36-hole totals of 155 and Hackman made a par on the first playoff hole to win her first-ever tournament. It marked the seventh time in program history that a CSU player won an event and Hackman became just the fourth Viking to capture an individual title in school history.

Hackman leads the team with a 77.1 scoring average, putting her on pace to break the CSU single-season average of 78.5 set in 2008-09 by Katie Broere.

Kelner has been outstanding in her first season at CSU, posting an 81.3 scoring average that includes a round of 68 in the fall, the first time a golfer broke 70 in program history.

The Vikings return to action on April 3-4 at the Colonel Classic, the second to last event leading up to the Horizon League Championship at the end of April.
