Vikings Split Two Matches on First Day of MAC Match Play

SARASOTA, Fla. - The Cleveland State women's golf team split a pair of matches at the MAC Match Play to open the spring season on Monday at the Lakewood Ranch Golf and Country Club.

The Vikings, playing as the No. 8 seed, dropped a tight 3.5-1.5 match to top-seeded Toledo in the opening round and defeated third-seeded Akron, 3-2, in a consolation match.

Sophomore Allyson Hackman picked up CSU's lone point in the morning match against Toledo, defeating Sathika Ruenreong, 8&7 at the No. 1 position. At the No. 5 spot, junior Colleen Miller halved her match with Stephanie St. Jean.

In the afternoon match against Akron, Miller earned another point with a 1UP victory, while senior Shelly Ford also picked up a point with a 1UP win at the No. 4 spot. Hackman and Micaela Cronin (No. 3) halved their matches to clinch the win for CSU.

CSU will face seventh-seeded Northern Illinois in the fifth place match on Tuesday morning to close the event.
