Marc Wilson will begin his second year as an assistant coach on the Cleveland State sidelines during the 2020-21 season, bringing with him over 20 years of Division I coaching experience.

Last season, Wilson was an instrumental part of the Viking coaching staff that led Cleveland State to a 21-11 record, marking just the third 20-win campaign in program history. Wilson also helped the Vikings post a record-setting 11-game winstreak between November 13, 2019 and December 28, 2019, helping Cleveland State post double-digit consecutive wins for the first time.

Wilson joined the Vikings last season after serving as the associate head coach and defensive coordinator at Southeast Missouri State, where he helped transform the Redhawks into one of the best defensive teams in the Ohio Valley Conference highlighted Adrianna Murphy being named the Ohio Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Year in 2017-18.

Prior to his stint at SEMO, Wilson spent three years at Clemson and four years at UAB, serving as the assistant coach and defensive coordinator at both stops.

During his time with the Blazers, Wilson helped guide the team to a pair of postseason bids, including a Women’s Basketball Invitational championship in 2010-11, while turning the program into the top-ranked scoring defense in Conference USA. UAB ranked third in the nation in points allowed per game in 2012-13 and also ranked in the top 50 nationally in scoring defense, field goal percentage defense, three-point field goal percentage defense, steals per game, and turnovers forced per game.

Wilson also spent time at Indiana, Kent State and Rhode Island, combining for eight years as the assistant coach and recruiting coordinator with the three teams. During his time with the Hoosiers, Wilson helped the team earn three postseason bids, while he helped KSU and URI reach their respective conference championship games.

Wilson got his start in collegiate coaching at his alma mater, spending four seasons as the assistant coach at Minnesota. During his time, Wilson recruited and signed four of Minnesota’s top seven high school players in the class of 2000, along with the 2001 Wisconsin High School Player of the Year.

In his recruiting career, Wilson recruited three WNBA draft picks in Lindsay Whalen (Minnesota, 2004, No. 4 overall to Connecticut Sun), Janel McCarville (Minnesota, 2005, No. 1 overall to Charlotte Sting) and Jori Davis (Indiana, 2011, No. 33 overall to Indiana Fever).

A four-year member of the University of Minnesota men’s basketball team, Wilson was a two-time All-Big Ten selection and finished his career ranked in the top-10 in scoring, assists and steals.
