White Records Career-High As Vikings Fall At YSU

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Despite a career-high 33-point effort from Mariah White, the Cleveland State women's basketball team came up short at Youngstown State Saturday, falling to the Penguins 84-72.

The Game
After taking a slim one-point lead into the halftime break at 38-37, the Vikings struggled offensively throughout the opening minutes of the third quarter, until Mariah White posted six straight points to give Cleveland State a six-point lead at 44-38.

YSU responded with a 9-2 run of its own to gain a 47-46 lead at the midway point of the third quarter, but another basket from White stopped the Penguin run to put the lead back in Cleveland State's favor at 49-47 following White's ensuing free throw on the and-one.

Despite Cleveland State regaining controlling of the game on White's and-one, YSU closed out the third quarter with a four-point advantage at 58-54.

The Penguins then opened the final 10 minutes of play with a 9-2 run, before a pair of White free throws halted the scoring streak for the Penguins and put the score at 67-58 YSU with 7:05 left on the clock.

YSU was then able to control play throughout the final part of the fourth quarter, as the Penguins came away with the 84-72 victory.
