Miller & Crockett Double-Doubles Lead Vikings To 71-53 Victory Over UIC

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Behind a pair of double-doubles from Mariah Miller and Savanna Crockett, the Cleveland State women's basketball team got back in the win column Saturday, picking up a 71-53 victory over UIC. With the win, the Vikings improve to 6-9 overall this season and 3-1 in Horizon League play.

· Four Vikings finished the contest with double-figure points, including Jade Ely who led all scorers with 25. Mariah Miller added 15 points for the Vikings, while Mariah White posted 12 and Savanna Crockett finished with 10.

· On the boards, Cleveland State held a 58-36 advantage over UIC, with Savanna Crockett and Mariah Miller both grabbing 15 rebounds each. Rachel Slaney also added eight boards for the Vikings.

· Cleveland State recorded 10 assists on the game, with four coming from Mariah White.

· As a team, the Vikings recorded 11 steals against UIC including five from Mariah White and two each from Jade Ely and Nadia Dumas.

· Mariah Miller posted her third double-double of the year, finishing with 15 points and 15 rebounds.

· With her 15 points, Mariah Miller has now recorded double-digit points in all but one game that she has played in this season.

· Savanna Crockett tallied her team-leading eighth double-double of the year, posting 10 points and a career-high 15 rebounds.

· Saturday's win put the Vikings at 3-1 to start Horizon League play this season, marking the third straight year that Cleveland State has picked up three wins in its first four #HLWBB games.

The Game
After going into the halftime break trailing by five points at the 28-23 mark, Cleveland State went on a 7-1 run over the opening minutes of the third quarter, gaining a 30-29 advantage at the 8:17 mark. This marked Cleveland State's first lead in the contest since early on in the second frame.

The Vikings were then able to extend their lead to 37-32 on a Jade Ely layup at the 5:43 mark, and then gained their largest lead up to that point at 45-35 on a Savanna Crockett jumper just two minutes later. The two teams then traded baskets over the remaining portion of the third quarter, with the Vikings taking a 47-41 lead into the final 10 minutes of play.

Although a UIC jumper opened the scoring during the fourth quarter, the Vikings were able to respond with 12 straight points to flip the momentum into Cleveland State's direction, as they gained a 60-43 advantage with 6:10 left on the clock.

The Vikings were able to control play throughout the rest of the contest then, as they held a sizeable advantage for the final six minutes of play. In the final minutes of the frame, Cleveland State was able to gain a 19-point advantage on a Rachel Slaney layup, marking the largest lead of the contest, and then went on to post the 71-53 victory over the Flames.
