Women’s Basketball Earns No. 6 Seed In Horizon League Tournament

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – After posting an even 9-9 record in Horizon League play throughout the regular season, the Cleveland State women's basketball team has earned the No. 6 seed in the upcoming 2017 Horizon League Tournament.

HORIZON LEAGUE TOURNAMENT BRACKET

The sixth-seeded Vikings (14-15, 9-9) will open tournament play with a Second Round contest against No. 3 Detroit (16-13, 12-6) on Sunday, March 5 at 12:00 p.m.

New for the 2016-17 season, the Horizon League men's and women's basketball tournaments will run concurrently, with 'Motor City Madness' being held at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, Mich. The five-day tournament will run from Friday, March 3 through Tuesday, March 7, with 18 combined men's and women's games carried on the ESPN network.

The Vikings and the Titans split the season series, with Detroit picking up a 66-54 victory during the first half of league play and Cleveland State coming away with a 75-50 win during the final week of the regular season.

Under head coach Kate Peterson Abiad the Vikings own an 11-11 record in the Horizon League Tournament, advancing to the semifinals five times and earning an appearance in the championship game twice. Cleveland State won the Horizon League Tournament title in both of their championship appearances, capturing the crown during the 2007-08 and 2009-10 seasons.
