Vikings Take Down Detroit, 75-50

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Behind a complete team effort, the Cleveland State women's basketball team picked up its second straight Horizon League victory Thursday evening, posting a 75-50 win over Detroit Mercy. With the win, the Vikings now stand at 14-14 overall this season and 9-8 in Horizon League play.

Game Stats
Khayla Livingston led the Viking offense with 27 points, while Ashanti Abshaw tallied 14 points and Olivia Voskuhl added 13.
Ashanti Abshaw grabbed a team-high 15 rebounds, while Khayla Livingston notched nine boards, and Olivia Voskuhl posted eight rebounds.
Olivia Voskuhl recorded six assists on the game, while Khayla Livingston added three helpers.
• As a team, the Vikings knocked down 11 three-pointers, with Khayla Livingston converting five of them.
• Cleveland State shot 40-percent from the floor and recorded a .407 clip from behind-the-arc.
• The Vikings held the Titans to a .333 clip from the field, and just 14-percent from three-point.
• Cleveland State outrebounded the Titans, 55-31, including 18 offensive boards.

Game Notes
Khayla Livingston recorded her eighth 20-point game of the season with her 27-point effort and was just one point shy of tying her career-high.
•  With her five made three-pointers, Khayla Livingston now ranks eighth in the CSU Career Record book with 143 career three-pointers.
Ashanti Abshaw notched her sixth double-double of the season with her 14 points and 15 rebounds.
• After sitting out the last 10 games with a broken hand, Lex Eckles returned to the lineup against the Titans. 
• Cleveland State's 55 rebounds marked a season-high for the Vikings.

The Game
The Vikings controlled play throughout the entire contest, holding the advantage for for all but 58 seconds over the opening minutes of the first quarter. Cleveland State was able to gain an early seven-point lead at the 4:20 mark of the opening frame with a jumper and three-pointer from Khayla Livingston, giving the Vikings a 13-6 advantage.

The Vikings were then able to close out the quarter with an Olivia Voskuhl three-pointer, putting the score at 18-14 Cleveland State after 10 minutes of play.

Cleveland State was then able to extend its lead to double-digits midway through the second quarter, with a Nicolete Newman three-pointer putting the Vikings up 31-20 with 4:00 left on the clock. The Vikings then closed out the frame on a 9-6 run, taking a 14-point lead (40-26) into the halftime break.

The Vikings kept the pressure on during the third quarter, gaining a 20-point lead at 55-35 after a Jade Ely layup at the 2:54 mark. The two teams then traded baskets throughout the final minutes of the frame, with Cleveland State taking a 59-40 lead into the final 10 minutes of action.

Cleveland State then went on to outscore the Titans 16-10 during the final frame, coming away with the 75-50 victory.
