Cleveland State was then able to close out the first 10 minutes of action with a 22-14 lead, but a strong Milwaukee second quarter gave the Panthers a four-point lead at the halftime break at 41-37.

The Vikings came out strong to open the third quarter, knocking down a pair of three-pointers from Ashanti Abshaw and Chrishna Butler to tie the score at 43-43 just 40 seconds into the frame. The two teams then traded baskets for the remainder of the frame, until Cleveland State went on a 6-0 run at the end of the quarter, to gain a 58-53 advantage to begin the final quarter.

After an Abshaw jumper at the 1:35 mark tied the contest for the seventh time, Milwaukee returned the basket to regain a 78-76 lead with less than one minute left on the clock. Cleveland State was then able to tie the contest once again on its next trip down the floor, with an Abshaw layup putting the score at 78-78 with just 30 seconds left to play. After inbounding the ball, Milwaukee used the remaining clock to run a play with Steph Kostowicz converting a layup as time expired for the 80-78 victory.
