Vikings Pick Up 58-54 Victory At Northern Kentucky

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Cleveland State women's basketball team remained perfect in Horizon League action Thursday night, with the Vikings picking up a 58-54 victory at Northern Kentucky. The Vikings now stand at 7-6 overall this season and 2-0 in league play.

Game Stats
· Khayla Livingston led the Viking offense with 19 points, including a perfect 5-for-5 performance from the free throw line.
· Ashanti Abshaw finished with 15 points, while Olivia Voskuhl added 14 points.
· Shadae Bosley grabbed five rebounds to lead the Vikings, while Jade Ely added four boards and Ashanti Abshaw and Alexis Eckles each added three.
· Shadae Bosley recorded three blocked shots on the game, while Alexis Eckles and Ashanti Abshaw both added one block.
· Khayla Livingston and Nicolete Newman both posted five assists on the game.

Game Notes
·After recording three blocked shots against the Norse, Shadae Bosley now ranks ninth in the CSU Career Record book with 61 career blocks.
· With her 15 points at NKU, Ashanti Abshaw eclipsed the 750-point mark for her career, ending the game with 758 points.
· Olivia Voskuhl (Elsmere, Ky.) had an excellent game in her homecoming, posting 14 points for her first double-digit performance over the last eight games.
· The Vikings posted a .400 clip from the field for the sixth time this season.
· For the fifth time under head coach Kate Peterson Abiad the Vikings have started Horizon League play with back-to-back victories.
· Thursday's victory marked the third straight win for the Vikings, and kept the Vikings perfect when playing at Northern Kentucky (2-0).

The Game
For just the fourth time this season, the Vikings went into the halftime break with the advantage, holding a nine-point lead at the 32-23 mark at the start of the second half.

This lead would not last long though, as Northern Kentucky went on a 9-0 run over the opening minutes of the third quarter to tie the contest at 32-32, but an Ashanti Abshaw layup at the 4:35 mark gave the advantage back to Cleveland State at 34-32. The two teams then traded baskets over the final part of the third quarter, with both teams heading into the final 10 minutes of action knotted at 39-39.

Throughout the final quarter, both teams traded two-point baskets until the final minute of the contest when Khayla Livingston sank her second three-point shot of the game giving the Vikings a 52-49 lead with just 44 seconds left on the clock. After an NKU steal and layup on a Cleveland State in-bounds play, the Norse were able to close the gap to just one point at 52-51 with less than 30-seconds left, but the Vikings were able to go 6-for-6 from the free throw line over the final seconds of the contest to secure the 58-54 victory.

For the game, the Vikings shot 73-percent from the free throw line, their sixth 70-percent performance of the season.
